Getting Paid: Making Money Without a Job.

"Making money happens in the free enterprise world when a very specific set of circumstances occur. It really does not matter if your looking to make money with or without a job. There are a few differences though, between w-2 income and self-employed incomes."

First of all the Circumstances: 1.In order to make money you have to create, add or provide value. 2.And the value needs to be agreed upon.3.You have to perform, agree, or create that value and accept money.

When you make money from a job you may not be involved in each area. As an employee your job may require a various degree of expertise. You may simply be require to do what your told at work in order to get paid. At some point though you agree to perform a function for a specific dollar amount for your time spent or value added. You are usually awarded a paycheck based on an hourly rate or you receive a salary.

What I have been shocked to find is that many people, usually employees don't realize that the owner of a small business is held to the same set of standards for making money. As an employee you may be provide with more clear cut instructions and expectations, depending on the industry your in, but ultimately you and your boss are playing by the same rule. This holds true also for large corporations.

So, if making money is making money, why are so many people interested in making money without a job? The answer to that question for many people is based on a set of false assumptions. For example. When your at work and you have an entrepreneurial moment, as Micheal Gerber with e-myth would say, you might hear a thought that goes something like this, " why should I do all the work while "he" makes all the money"?

First of all, he is paying you and a host of other bills you may be completely unaware of, herein lies the "assumption". Most small business owners make the decision to start a business with a thought much like this one. They want to make all the money. They feel making money without a job is much better, there is more of it and you get to do whatever you want when ever you want.

For some of us reading this it may sound ridiculous for others, it sounds right on, and to others it sound like I am exaggerating a bit. All perspectives are equally accurate and relevant. Here is the point though. When someone decides they no longer want to depend on someone else for their financial futureand they decide to start a business, how often is it based on a sound and logical idea. According to statistics, its about 5% the first three years and less than 1% after 5 years. Crazy, huh?

Business has many facets. From the business model and how quickly cash will move in that model. Business structure, tax implications, marketing, training sales, accounting, employee requirements, liability and workers compensation insurance, the list goes on and on. If you are leaning toward making your money without the same old job, congratulations. Make sure you have all your ducks in row, so to speak.
